Default She's Dead Jim

Well, I loaned my car to a friend back in December, and I get a text message saying they got into an accedent and then I roll up to this... My heart sank. I loved the car and hoping to get one soon... When the friend gets the money to replace the car.

Ehh .. just a flesh wound :-)

But ... if everyone is OK, thats the important part. Satty's are a dime a dozen, people are a little harder to replace.

Pull anything worth pulling off of it before it goes to scrap if you can ... original spares can often be worth way more than the car itself (if the sunroof works, it would definitely be worth pulling as a unit.

I know how this feels. I lost my 94 two weeks ago, and it killed my heart. Since then we have pulled every last decent part, and plan to save them for the next satty. It will get better soon.

I know that "saying goodbye" feeling. Had an accident in September with a woman making a left in front of me and I tore up the front right corner. Ran over a huge semi retread on a dark interstate in December, ripping out half the front fascia/bumper assembly and most underneath plastic, etc. Both times, thought that was going to be the end. Fortunately, underlying structure/frame not damaged so it was replace whatever I could unbolt, unscrew, unclip, unpin, unwhatever, and reinstall with replacement parts from the JYs around here. Just made a 400mi RT to west Texas this weekend. Still, that's a heartbreaker when regular driver for a long time bites the dust and you've got a bunch more collateral damage there. Hope you have a great "next chapter."

If it wasn't for the fact that I had no where to tow the car to and take parts off it, I'd done that. I just had the tranny Rebuilt, 10,000 mi on that. She was runnin tip top. Everyone made it alright minus bumps n bruises.

Glad the occupants are OK. Chalk another one up to Saturn safety.

What happened - another car, deer, ice on the road? Looks like a pretty big hit.

Can you buy back from teh insurance company, pull the trans, etc., then scrap it yourself?

Why I don't lend my car to anyone that I'm not ready to part with, i.e., at least 10 years old and/or 150K miles on it.

Information Re: She's Dead Jim

Due to not having anywhere to tow it to, I had to give the title to the tow company that the pd called to have my car towed.

She hit a 2013 Suburban. I don't know how the other vehicle looked, cause it was drive-able apparently. When I arrived to the scene, the other was already gone, and the pd was just waiting for a tow truck. as you see, my car was blocking one lane of traffic. Up until I finally went and visited her in the hospital, I never knew how it happened or what she hit. I looked at ever near tree, pole, area.. Nothing, no dead deer, nothing. Even the tow driver looked around and couldn't see anything. And what's weird is only the passenger bag deployed, not the one in the wheel.

I really am looking for another Saturn. Something in the range of early 2000. But i can't always wait around... Cause I'm having to resort to a 1990 Chevy G20, with a 5.7L (350) engine, and the awesome 33gal gas tank. Make it better at least its getting in the ball park of 15-18mpg... ha ha..
