Default 185000 miles

Well jut got 185000 miles on the car, after the 2nd alternator the car is working fine, new tires.

I have done the basic maintenance, what else do I need to do to the car ?
When does the Saturn needs new shocks, still on originals the same for the fuel filter ?

REWARD EXCELLENCE!

New fuel filter is advisable. I am at 244k on my 1998 SL2 and am on my 3rd starter, 3rd radiator, 2nd alternator and I rebuilt the suspension at 185K. It wasn't necessary, but it mad the car drive like new.

Really, you only need to replace things as they break on these cars. That's the beauty of driving a Saturn.

I replaced mine at 204,067. It was easy except both bolts snapped off. My kid drilled and tapped new holes.

Probably not. I felt better changing mine due the rebuild. I'll change it again in 2036 or so.

Change it. If it is plugged you can go dangerously lean at WOT and may burn a valve.

I replaced mine at 157K or so ONLY because the 'book' said it was good for 100K. Probably didn't need to - especially if you're not noticing/experiencing any issues.

If you change the filter make sure you buy one recommended here. Wix is prob the best. Cheaper filters can also cause lean conditions at WOT and burn valves.

I ran my original struts about 250k but I replace them when they show signs of being worn. The old bounce test works as good as any for me.

Are these lean condition issues only at WOT? Who goes WOT anyway... I don't think I ever have...

Well, rather than WOT, it's in open loop operation really. While climbing grades in the Mojave desert in the summer, I've watched my PCM drop the engine into open loop many times. Had my filter been restrictive, I could have burned a valve I'm sure.

I’m as enthusiastic about WOT as much as I am about keeping an Open Mind. When you keep an open mind, people throw their garbage in it.

Having to pull out from an uncontrolled (no stop light, on ramps, etc) intersection on to a 4 lane divided highway that has a 65mph speed limit... WOT is not uncommon for me.

It scares me because it sounds like your nice little car has turned into an angry roaring monster. Not saying I’ve never stomped on my gas pedal before but I’ve had good reason. Well at least at the time I thought so.
