Default 1996 SL2 engine/trans into 1995 SC1

I have a 1996 SL2 donor car with a good engine and auto transmission. Rear subframe is totally rusted out and trailing arm mounts are gone. Can I install the engine and transmission into my 1995 SC1? I realize this is a DOHC drivetrain in the SL2 and the SC1 is SOHC. The SC1 engine is good, but the auto trans blew apart (big hole where parts blew out while driving). The SC1 is pretty much rust free.

REWARD EXCELLENCE!

Yes, but you will want to bring the PCM over with the SC2 engine and trans.

Probably want t take the instrument cluster, too, as SC2 goes to 130mph, SC1 speedo goes to 110, not sure if that will be inaccurate if you don't bring it over

You'll need to do some research on sensors, wiring harness, etc. '96 is OBDII while '95 is OBDI

maybe this bump will bring out someone who knows

The 95 is a bit of an orphan. The electronics are basically gen1. 96 is gen2.

Also - isn't the sc1 TBI?? The PCM and wiring to the injectors would need to be swapped.

Make sure to take onlinebiker's advice with chaos' advice, because of the coolant gauge. OBD-II uses one sensor & OBD-I uses TWO. Both engines use an electronic EGR valve, so that shouldn't be an issue.

Keep the '96 exhaust up to the catalytic converter
plug the rear O2 port (leave sensor in if you like)
pull the '95 harness off the SOHC and reattach to the DOHC (swap the knock sensor)
drill & tap 2nd ECTS port in location of your choosing (I like the upper radiator hose nipple, just after the stop tab)
swap PCM to '95 DOHC (can't use '96+ because it's a different harness, same with '94)
Try swapping gauge cluster overlays, if for some reason it doesn't work like I think it should then swap clusters. Either way, the SOHC overlays won't read anywhere near correct on a DOHC.
Transmission:
A) manual can keep whichever you like
B) Automatic have to swap to MP7
'95 is 1st year of the good SOHC's...bye bye to bad sushi (TBI units...lol).
'95 EGR valve is electronic, but like '94's with Cali Emissions it's hacked in (seriously! check out the harness to it, you'll see/feel the hacked in adapter) as it still use's the OBD-1 PCM that doesn't understand non-vacuum EGR signals.
All the injectors '91-'01 use the same connector, sometime in '01.5 to '02 it change's. SOHC injectors won't run a DOHC engine at high RPM for long, they'll go lean fairly quickly and if you're lucky you'll only burn cyl 3 exhaust valve unless you keep the DOHC injectors on the DOHC.
