Default 94 sl1 intermittent starting problems...not what you think

Long time fan, first post.

So I'm well aware of my car's problems. I do have the 5 minute warming the choke up priming the the pump problem, but yesterday after having a really terribly cold night here in Wisco, there's a new problem and I'm at wit's end, cause I've owned several satty's, and ton's of other cars, and I've never run into this:
So, when I turn the key from off to on, the entire dashboard and car goes dead...no 5 second pump prime..no power, nothing. I hear a weird chime...bingbingbingbing....but it's light, and if I turn it off and back on, it'll catch, but it seem's like I have to take the key all the way out of the ignition...I'm trying to have an idea of what to tell the mech I'm taking it to. It almost seem's like it's in the ignition cylinder, like something has come loose...it will start, but now it's more finagling than normal. This is also a 5 speed manual, so maybe it has something to do with that freaking clutch safety switch? Or am I on the right track with something in cylinder. The only thing I noticed was that the cylinder was very sticky when this all started to happen yesterday. Thank's guy's....

Sounds like battery connections need cleaning, solid tightening, isn't being charged, OR battery is shot.

I just replaced the battery...when I did that the negative cable seemed like it would get to the point of tightness and then go past it. I'll check that today when the sun comes up a bit more and then go from there.

Thank you

GM's side post designs are horrid.
Sounds like your negative bolt thread is stripped seeing you are threading into a new battery. Go to the autoparts store and replace it.
I got around the side posts on my suburban & changed to convenient top posts.

The screw in a battery side-terminal won't tighten properly? Sounds like it is stripped from over-tightening. I suppose a helical insert may work there, but I would be incline to use a "reducer bushing".

Well thank's guy's, thing is it was the terminal post. It was stripped and the rubber round the connector on the cable wasn't letting it sit. Quick fix, but with winter crashing in, a spot on the clutch plate starting, a bad motor mount and the hard start....sigh, the wife and I are going in to the cities today to get a more stable ride. It's too much stress with two job's on the line and not having the way's to get there. I'm hoping to pick up a Vue but we'll see what's on the lot we're going to.

I'm not done with saturns, just next one will have less to worry about hopefully....
