08" Aura XR power steering whine at low RPM
My wife' Aura XR (135k) has had a low speed PS pump whine for years that we have lived with. It had a pump or two put on at the dealer under warranty that never seemed to fix the problem entirely. Now that the GMPP extended warranty is over it is getting worse, acting like a pump that is low on fluid. I have gone through the procedure of putting a vacuum on the reservoir while the front suspension is unloaded and turning lock to lock many, many times with intermittent success at best.
I've searched this forum and the web but mostly read about the electric pump on other Aura's failing. Also about lines being too small and pump recalls but nothing seems to be specific to our model. I'd buy a high performance pump or anything else for that matter if I knew it would fix the problem. I had a friend look on All Data and he didn't see any steering problems for our model either.
Anyone got any ideas for me?

Re: 08" Aura XR power steering whine at low RPM
So your local dealer was clueless with several power steering pump replacements without eliminating the noise? Either they didn't replace any pump, maybe wiped off any dirt to make it look new or they really were clueless. There's only so much to power steering; the pump, hoses and steering rack assembly.
If you search for power steering problems and cures, you're likely to find most info related to air entering the high pressure side to create cavitation in the pump as air allows cavitation and noise. Purging air from a system usually requires unloading the front wheels so power steering can be exercised from full left to right and back several times to allow steering fluid to flow thru the entire steering rack and pump before all air is purged. This process requires time and slowly turning the wheel to allow fluid fluid flow without ingesting air into oil. Keeping oil full is important too. There may be other reasons for noisy steering and may require scouter look by another shop either expert on power steering or another to dealer. If records are kept, this may help if you're asked to pay for repeated repairs that were never fixed with GM corporate called into this repeated problem. Someone somewhere knows a solution and GM isn't totally blind (except for your local dealer). Was GM ever called about this issue to raise the problem above the dealer level?
