Default Need help to install left side fender on 2000 LS

There are basically 3 main parts to this fender, plus the headlight assembly. I hit a deer in the dark and it basically destroyed the aforementioned left side fender and headlight.

I am attempting to reinstall the "salvage yard" parts. The first piece necessary is a plastic ( what else ) rail that is about an inch or 2 wide and runs the length of the hood, from the windshield to the back side of the headlight. It is being a BEAR to get back on, and has almost broke on me several times. Four screws hold it in place, and also has 2 rubber "clips", each with the top sticking out of 2 openings on this rail. This piece is a must, I am assuming, since it relates to the fender itself, and as I tell people, car manufacturers put ALL parts on the car for a reason.

This rail was in pieces when I was removing all of the destroyed parts, and as usual, did not look to see in which direction the 2 rubber pieces mount in their respective holes on it. I know which direction the rail itself goes on. That was easy to recall, because the ends of this rail are different. But, for some reason, I can't get the d**n thing back on, whether I try with the 2 rubber pieces in their holes, or try with them out, hoping to get them pushed back in when I get this rail screwed back down with the 4 screws that hold it in place.

The plastic fender well goes in next, rounding over the tire from the front door to just behind the headlight, and all that hold it in are those plastic push / pull pins that swell up on the back side after insertion into the hole, and a slight push on a screw-like pin with your finger.

IF anyone is familiar with what is facing me, and can help, PLEASE answer this post. The car is overdue for inspection and new registration / license plate. Here, in North Carolina, new fines are levied, the longer you go past your license plate expiration date, and I am pushing the second of four or five different fines. D**N DEER!!!!

PLEASE attach jpeg. files / photos if at all possible. I sincerely apologize for the novel-like post, but I hope it makes enough sense for someone...anyone to understand. T hanks very much for any assistance or advice / expertise that can be given. I would be VERY grateful.

REWARD EXCELLENCE!

Welcome to SaturnFans, jupitersaturn!

I have not had to replace the fender nor its related components. However, I do have manuals and could send information if that would help. Please send a private message with an email address and I will send that information to you.

Happy Re: Need help to install left side fender on 2000 LS

pierrot,

I sent a reply about 2 weeks ago, with a couple of photos attached, but for some reason unbeknownst to me, it never posted; at least not in THIS thread.

That said, I just wanted to let you know that the "???months long" problem I've had w/ the 2000 LE has been solved. Now, I will be able to move forward, with hopes of getting it back to road worthy condition.

Here in NC, they want to know everything but your shoe size, + pay the equivalent amount you'd normally spend at Christmastime!! (sarcasm), although very close to NOT being same...to get a vehicle that's been parked, back on the road! Hope that makes sense.

Notwithstanding, a step or three closer to having MY CAR back...even though my wife's 2014 Corolla that I use extensively...is going to make me all warm and fuzzy inside. LOL

Thanks very much for your replies and continued interest, as well as your expertise, in assisting me with my Saturn. BTW, I might've mentioned it before, but JIC, it has a 2.2 EcoTech engine, & is at 248,000 miles...still running like a Swiss watch...KNOCK ON WOOD. I'm told by some local Chevy mechanics that the 2.2 is one of the best motors Chevy's ever made. Sure would be sweet if I was certain about their comments. I DO need to tackle the A/C though. It doesn't work.A local guy I know told me a while back, that he would pull a vacuum on it, recharge it with something other than freon (I can't recall with what), and see what he could find out. If it comes down to it, I'll probably return HERE, likely with MANY questions.

Thanks again, pierrot...AND Saturnfans (dot) com, for allowing me to compose more than ONE novel on your message board(s). I shall return.

Unless you would choose to reply, I suppose the moderators could consider the thread as " comments closed". I'm grateful.

~~~Tom / aka jupitersaturn
I'm glad that I could be of some help to you. FWIW, jupitersaturn, I did find two pictures posted to the website when I clicked onto your "jupitersaturn's Photos". The pictures were in that section. The fact that there is no message posted containing photographs means that you must not have submitted the reply. Nevertheless, it's not that big of a concern in the end. I've made my share of mistakes when posting things here at SaturnFans. I look forward to seeing posts from you in the future!
