2007 ION-3 Sedan
Default Can Someone explain this

07 ion3 2.2

Everyday on my ride home from work at the exact same spot, about 4 miles down the road, I get the "COOLANT" message displayed on my dash. Then about 2/10's of a mile down the road at the exact same spot it goes out. Been doing this about a week or so now. It happens on the downside of an overpass then goes off at the top of the next overpass. My plan next week is to take a different route home on Monday then normal route Tues.

REWARD EXCELLENCE!

Your coolant level is just low enough to trigger the [low] coolant warning to come on during that particular part of your commute. Add some coolant and it will go away.

The coolant level needs to remain at or slightly above the large seam in the reservoir to prevent the coolant warning from being displayed.

The float inside the surge tank is loosing it buoyancy. It will get worse and the message will be on most of the time.

Replace the surge tank.

Well I added some coolant no change. It does come on more often now. I guess I will have to change tank. Is that just a fluid level warning or does it do anything else?
