Default Tach problem

I'm having a small problem with my 99 sw2 and can't seem to find any ino on it. Whenever it's cold outside my tach guage will climb all the way to red line and max itself out and stay there. Once the car is warmed up and I turn it off it goes down. Then restart and it's fine. Any help would be great. Thanks

Not sure, ever since it got colder out our 99 SL2 needle gets stuck vibrating at 0 for a few seconds then shoots up to where it normally is... Our 97 and my 94 do not do that. Maybe its just an issue with the instruments on 99's?

Are you saying that the engine runs at normal speed but the tach needle incorrectly shows high rpms, or that then engine itself runs at super high speed/rpms and the tach is correctly showing the high rpms?

Sorry, I should have worded it better. Yes, the engine runs normal it's just the guage that seems to be acting up. Thanks
