2008 Astra XR
Default C1555,p0446,p1793,u0122

The car had been sitting for a few months as I was away. Battery died so I tried to jump start it without charging the battery first. Now I have the above noted codes and the radio does not work as well as the speedo. don't want to send this to the dealer as it may cost more to determine what the problem is than the car is worth.

REWARD EXCELLENCE!

A dead battery may create false error codes when jump starting a car after it sat for a few months. The easiest thing to try first after restarting (regardless of a dead battery) is be sure the engine runs and resetting error codes. The alternator will recharge a dead battery as long as the battery wasn't damaged from draining as the memory chips in each module slowly drained the battery over a few months. Resetting error codes can be done after recharging the battery by either battery negative cable disconnect, pulling ECM or PCM fuses or using a reader. If the battery was damaged from irreversible discharging where the battery won't hold a charge, replace the battery.

When leaving a car sitting for more than a few weeks, it's better to disconnect the battery (negative cable) or use a trickle charger (less than two amps) plugged into a wall outlet. A trickle charger never overcharges a battery and simply keeps a battery freshly charged. The battery can be left connected with the trickle charger connected to it for as long as needed without concern.

Did you check for blown fuses? There's always a possibility when a dead battery is jump started a fuse or two may blow.
