Default Upgrading the radio to UUI

My GF just got a 2009 Aura at a real decent price to replace a car that was in an accident. I noticed that some of the Auras had a USB port and some don't depending on the build date. I wondered if it was worth it to upgrade to enhance listening pleasure, but I can't find out if the USB port would work with modern phones. The literature will only mention some smart phones of the day. Has anyone used their USB port with modern android phones for music or streaming?

What kind of phone? iPhone, yes will work just fine. Not sure about Android, but I'm sure it will work just fine. Here's a suggestion, find a used 7th gen Malibu around you with the UUI and test it.

Late Aura XR 3.5s had the USB port. You can check car-part.com for units, once you select 2009 AUra, you can drill down to UUI. I see some as low as $50-60. eBay has a few for about $100.

While they are plug and play, remember, you will need a GM dealer to program it to your car. Expect an hour labor to do it.

why not just replace the stereo all together?

just for bluetooth alone...that was enough for me to swap out

I second that. For around $120 you can get a really nice stereo with BT and it it is certainly doable to fit your own with a bit of patience. I used Crutchfield and bought a well reviewed Pioneer stereo with customizable button colors and easy connectors....I also found I could wire the microphone underneath and along the side of the windshield without removing anything, I'm very happy and I definitely recommend it.

However, add in $60-80 more if you want to integrate the steering wheel controls and I personally struggled with these, ending up calling the manufacturer who then proceeded to tell me their installation directions were incorrect.... hopefully they have fixed it for an Aura since then!

I just ordered one of these to try out. Might do what you want. Plugs in to AUX IN and the phone connects by Bluetooth. Kind of like Bluetooth headphones in reverse. Cheap too!
