Default A/C not working

I have a 2000 Saturn Sw2 and within the past of days my A/C system completely shut down. The cooling fan isn't coming on when I turn on the A/C and the A/C compressor isn't coming on either. The fan does turn on when the car reaches a certain temperature. Does anyone have any ideas what might be causing this? Perhaps it's the switch on the dash that went bad?

If both do not work, I am assuming that there is no signal being sent to trigger the a/c clutch and fan. Maybe the switch is bad, or perhaps a bad connection to the switch or wiring harness?

Your ac system probably suffered the same problems occurring to 98% of vehicles, the leak no one wants to address but will run to the auto store for a refill kit to refill........a leaking system. Before running to the store for expensive refill kits, buy an inexpensive uv blacklight and find the source of the leak. Dye is already installed and will leak out along with refrigerant and oil. Dye marks the leak area so you can decide on how to repair it. Refrain from using leak sealer unless you're willing to pay more for repairs than if you follow less expensive suggestions. A UV light can be used on many cars with r134a systems with dye already installed at factory assembly.

The loss of refrigerant is detected by a pressure sensor sending low pressure signals to the pcm. The pcm prevents compressor operation while disabling the cooling fan for ac operation. The PCM still monitors coolant temperatures to regulate fan cooling for the cooling system. When too much refrigerant is lost, the compressor is prevented from running; refrigerant oil circulates only by liquid refrigerant. No refrigerant, no oil circulation and the compressor will destroy itself quickly without oil circulating back to lube compressor internal moving parts. The pressure sensor detected the loss so the PCM disables power to the compressor. Find and fix the source of the leak so the system holds pressure (doesn't leak) and ac cooling can be restored.
