2008 XE Coolant Leak
My 2008 XE has a coolant leak. It's leaking from the rear of the engine. At first I thought it was transmission fluid (both are red color) because it was dripping from the transmission pan, but I'm losing coolant. Plus further investigation looks like the drip is coming from what I think is the water transfer tube. Without removing parts (like the exhaust heat shield), I can't see any further up. The picture isn't great, but it shows the drip (this is looking up from the ground). I tried to check the hoses and reservoir in that area, and I don't believe any of those are leaking because they felt dry.
Are the seals between the thermostat housing and transfer tube a common leak point? Is there anything else in this area that could be leaking or is the transfer tube/thermostat housing the likely culprit? Based on the service manual, this doesn't seem like that hard of a job. Is that a correct assessment? What else should I replace while I'm in there? The thermostat and gasket/o-rings are a no brainer. Anything else?
