Default 2005 Ion P1516

Check engine light turned on this morning and checked the code and got P1516. Anyone have any recommendations on a quick way to resolve?

Just got the car a month ago, about 71K miles on it. Drives well, but noticed that it appears to get slightly less MPG than expected (not huge, but definitely less than my 96 SL2 got).

REWARD EXCELLENCE!

DTC P1516 Throttle Actuator control (TAC) Module Throttle Actuator Position Performance

Drive by wire systems use a computer to command throttle open and close according to pedal position. Electronic throttle, engine computer, and electric throttle. You can see how throttle operates by having someone press the gas pedal while you watch throttle open and close (ignition on engine off). Throttle cleaning may help. Spark plugs replaced at recommended mileage intervals (owners manual)? Dirty air filter?

Thanks for the advice. I just got the 2005 Ion a month ago . Its at 71K miles. I became very familiar with my 96 SL2 which I owned for years and made numerous repairs on that car up until the transmission went. I'll take a look at your recommendations tomorrow.

Popped off the Air Filter and wow was there a bunch of leaves and junk in there. Sucked it all out with my shopvac and cleaned the air filter (doesn't appear too bad). Will give it a try for a bit before I tackle cleaning the throttle body. Used to love following the Richpin videos for my SL2. Trying to figure out the best way to learn about my 2005 Ion 2 right now.

I also popped off the Ecotec plastic cover. I heard that just traps in heat and doesn't really have any functional purpose.

EDIT: I took some pictures of the throttle body. Looks good, but then again its the first one I've ever looked at. Any thoughts? Pics are attached here.

Update: I thought this issue had gone away after I cleaned out the air filter and it looks like the throttle is clean. But, now the P1516 has come back along with a new code P0496 (Evaporative Emission System High Purge Flow).

Also, the last 2 times I've added gas to my Ion I've had issues with restarting the car. First time I thought it was the battery, but I got it started on try #10 after about 5 minutes. Yesterday when adding gas (after low fuel light came on) the car didn't start the first try. Second try had no issues with starting the car up.

Replace the purge valve . It 's located on the back of the cylinder head. easy to replace 2 plastic hoses and 1 wire connector.
