Dizzy 2005 Saturn L300 wont start

My Daughters 2005 Saturn L300 wont start with the throttle control valve actuator connected. If the wiring harness is disconnected it will start. You can reconnect the wiring and it will run. When trying to start with the wiring harness connected you hear a mechanical knocking noise that seems to be coming from the throttle actuator. Fuel pump and filter were replaced and there is fuel pressure at the Schrader valve. Any ideas?

Are there any error codes (engine light on)? What's mileage on this car? Maintenance done, parts replaced? Was the throttle actuator ever cleaned or mishandled during maintenance?

The noise coming from the throttle motor may be from it being jammed as the engine computer automatically sets throttle position for startup. A pair of throttle position sensors are used for safety and feedback to the ecm for it to determine where the throttle position is and to command it to an initial position for starting. When a position other than what's expected doesn't occur, the ecm tries to reposition throttle plate, where you hear noise. If the throttle plate is jammed the ecm may default to reduced power mode to prevent any engine runaway from occurring. L300's are the first Saturns to use drive by wire technology and is trouble free except for normal wear and tear as dbw systems age.

I don't have exact mileage but it is around 150,000. The throttle actuator has not been cleaned or messed with. Vehicle was running fine until no start issue. Daughter drove it to church and then it would not start when she was coming home. My daughter said the knocking had not occured before the car would not start.

Diagnosis was no fuel pressure at Schrader valve. Family friend (mechanic at Kenworth) replaced fuel pump and filter and we now have fuel pressure at Schrader valve. Knocking at throttle actuator was occuring berfore the fuel pump was replaced. Will be getting codes this weekend.

Problem solved. Drove car to a local shop, idle speed only. They cleared the codes, cleaned the throttle body actuator, and manually reprogrammed the throttle body actuator. The car now runs as good as ever.
