2002 SL
Default No fuel or temp gauge after starter change

Its been a while since I visited this site, my daughter had the car at collage for a few years and its been great until now. I have a 2002 SL1, and the starter went out. After changing it, now neither the temp or fuel gauge are working, they don't move at all. I removed the battery before changing the starter, and cleaned it and topped off the charge while on the bench.
All fuses check good, and everything else works.
Any thoughts?
Much appreciated.

I gotta ask... are you sure those gauges worked before the starter change?

Those are single wire digital gauges. Disconnect battery NEGATIVE and let it sit with the headlight switch on for a couple of minutes then turn off headlights and reconnect battery negative and hope the BCM catches on and decides to talk to the cluster.

Thanks for the process OldNuc, worked like a charm.
It started as a collage beater for my daughter, but we've grown fond of it and its MPG's, and are glad its whole again.

That trick usually works and when it fails then it is new BCM time. Generally when doing any electrical work on a Gen-3 model disconnecting the battery negative is a very good idea, even if it does seem like it is required.
