2005 ION Red Line
Default 2005 Ion redline, needs idea on how much it worth

Someone is selling it has 209k miles , haven't driven it yet but if it in fair condition thinking about it, they are asking $3900, its black ext.is ok some scraps and chips but no big damage, interior is good but they used way to much deodorant lol. Just wondering about price, looks like they are above KBB and NADA asking price on it, any ideas???

What is KBB value?

I would shoot an offer for either at or slightly below the KBB value just to see if they will budge on it.
I cant say what to shoot for as idk what the value is.
209k miles seems to a bit high to buy tho, then again, these engines are reliable.

a test drive is needed tho.
if it drives smooth, and theres no unusual noise to it, then you can shoot for kbb value or slightly under.

in this case as far as condition, based on your description, id would base off of the good or fair condition. only way it would fall under excellent is if its like new, which is it far from.

3900?
I paid 2700 for mine with 124k on it.
Id say 3500 at most if its stock, 3k if its modded.
And I only say lower if its modded because you don't know how hard they beat on the car.

Coolant light is the sensor. Its built into the tank itself, so you need to replace the whole thing.
Endlinks, use Moog.
Get fe5 control arms (08-10 SS) with spherical bushings from Crate engine depot.
Use NGK copper plugs. They don't last as long, but they are better for boosted motors.

When you are ready to start modding it, let me know. Stock gets boring quick.

the sensor may be dirty, like mine might be.
you can bypass the message by jumping it with a wire (like I did), but then you will have to periodically check the fluid (should check all fluids periodically anyways, right?)

try taking the coolant tank out and swishing soapy water in it can clean the sensor too.
if needs replacing, as specified, you need to replace the whole tank.
if you try to replace just the sensor, autoparts stores will just look at you funny.
Plus it cannot be easily removed from the tank either

Yeah I have had saturns before, but never an Ion, I'll try the soap but doubt it will work, I did install a Stainless Steel grill off a redline Vue in the opening and painted the foglight closures silver, just for the heck of it,

I also have the stainless steel grill (didn't know the Vue used the same size). It matches the color the inserts faded to from the original black.

The mesh grille doesn't look bad. Mine is horizontal bars in silver with a black accent.
You should probably look into the fog lights, as lighting is horrible with the coupes.
Don't know why you don't have em, I thought they started coming with them in 05.

And black is the best color, by the way

oh, and in the next week or so I will have a K&N intake for sale if youre interested. I am upgrading to a zzp 3 in.

Well I built Saturns for 16yrs, worked at the plant, there are different levels, 1,2,3, I think. they keeped the gauges under lock and key I hear. we had so many come down the line didn't have time to keep up, lol. I did change plugs, fuel filter, and cabin filter, it was black never been changed, most people don't know enough about their cars to check or read the manual. I do have new headlights coming, mine are bad, new struts and shocks, and control arms, end links etc. Drives great for a 200k car all the plugs looked the same, no oil evident on them. ? how do u drain inter cooler remove hose? thinking of flushing it along with the radiator and clean tank see it sensor starts working, rockauto has them for $34 I think.

What shocks/struts did you go with? fe5 I hope. Fe3 isn't bad, but Fe5 is just a lot better overall. Same with control arms, along with spherical bushings.

Ill put money on it that your intercooler needs to be rebuilt. Its a common thing that they only last 50-60k on em. My buddy rebuilt mine in like 20 min, and my temps dropped 60 degrees. Super easy to do. Your intercooler is ran through the motor coolant as well.

When you change the air filter, use a k&n/spectre unless you look into a full intake.

And yes, they have level 1, 2, 3, Redline.

Feel free to message me with any questions man.

To my knowledge, the Red Lines never came with fog lights.
I also had to buy a whole new center console in order to get an armrest.

What? They were definitely standard issued in at least 06/07. It might of been late 05 they started it.
I have fogs in mine, and so do most of the locals (besides the 1 with an 04)

Redlines did not come with an armrest. They only came in the base models.
I think I have 2 extra's of those if anyone needs one.

iv added fog lights onto my ion sedan, and it made a huge difference in lighting.
the ones I found, however, do not have the tiny chrome bulb covers inside the assembly, so light coming from the fogs go everywhere, especially with the fact I have HIDs in them.
I wish I can open them and paint them black to match, which will also help reduce the amount of glare, but I think they been opened before, and permanently resealed. they may have been opened to remove the bulb covers, might get another pair later on.

wow, 3900 for one with 209k miles, i realize this post is pretty old, but i would think thats atleast $1000 more than it was worth unless it was in extremely good shape.
