Default Is O'Reilly's synthetic 10w-30 oil good?

I'm thinking of switching to a synthetic oil since it's on sale.

5W-30 is a better choice. Synthetic is great for any engine, go for it.

10W-30 will work, but only in the summer.

First number is viscosity when cold, second is when hot.

Hence a 10W- oil is a lot thicker in the cold at start up than a 5W- or a 0W- oil...

I was reading up on this some time ago on bobistheoilguy, with that logic wouldn't it make sense to go with 0w-30?

When you can get full synthetic 5W or 10W for under $2 a quart,
buying 0W-30 for $8+ does not make sense...

When it's below zero out, 0W does make sense...

Guys, OP is in California.

Pretty sure it never gets cold enough where he needs to worry about 10w30 vs 5w30

10W30 is only to be used above 20F

0w30 is a good choice for our Canadian neighbors, who understand what real cold is all about.

some good discussion about taking it all with a grain of salt, here
