1995 SC2
Default '95 SC2 weak power steering

So recently my beast of a car decided to add one more thing to the list of needed repairs. im not sure the cause but my power steering has become all but useless. i dont really notice it much while the car is moving, but if im stopped it feels like i have no assistance from the pump. i can hear it straining trying to help, but to minimal effect. the fluid level in the reservior is fine and i dont see any fluids dripping out the bottom. what could cause this?

Check the belt and tensioner first although I would think you'd hear it if it was slipping.

Sounds like the pressure relief valve may be stuck or the valving in the power rack itself could be bad.

Good luck

tensioner is brand new. had to replace that a few weeks ago due to it squeaking on the alternator. where might i find said valves to check them?

There should be a solenoid attached to the power steering pump where the high pressure hose goes in at the bottom rear. idk how you would go about checking it, and it's sort of a pain to remove just to test.

Search threads explaining the EVO sensor on the pwr steering pump. It may be faulty. The sensor varies pump pressure so slow speed parking gives the most steering assist and reduces it as speed increases, less assist at highway speeds.
