1999 SL2
Default Issue with not charging

Hoping I can get closer to a solution thru the help here. I've been testing and eliminating as many possible causes I can. Now I'm stuck.
99' Saturn SL2
Problem: Not charging
Symptoms: Battery light originally started coming on in early spring but only flickering. No performance issues noticed. Checked battery cables and the obvious things. Left it be. During summer never really seen the light come on much. Fall came and as weather cooled it got worse again. Finally started to drain battery so assumed it to be alternator. Swapped in new alternator, started, battery light still on. Brought engine RPM's to 3000 for a couple secs and light flickered then went out. Checked voltage output and it was only battery voltage. About 12.2v after running a few mins. Started at 12.5v.
Started researching and testing everything and thus far:
- Fusible link tested good. Replaced anyway.
- IGN 1 and IGN 3 in fuse box good. Power on both sides
- Alternator plug has battery power to both terminals when "IGN ON" and unplugged
- Probed same wires while car running and both have battery power
- Checked battery warning bulb and its good. Also have continuity thru the traces on IP.
- Have double checked alternator output while running and RPM's at 2k, still only reads battery voltage
- Belt tensioner is good, belt is tight

What is throwing me is 1) the battery light does not light "but" I can get it to come on if I supply power to the BRN/white wire on alternator plug while plugged in. 2) Don't know how it can not have output if it has the battery power to both alternator plug wires unless the new alternator is also bad. The only other thing I can assume is a bad connection somewhere that finally went. Don't know where to look though.

So with all that, is there anything I'm missing? Appreciate any help.
Thanks

REWARD EXCELLENCE!

From my experience, that Batt Lgt is not the most reliable indicator.

That would be my suspicion.

If you have been probing the alternator regulator connector the connector may now be defective.

**** When you turn the key to ON but not crank does the battery light come on?

The connector or alternator is bad based on what you have posted.

Nope, with key ON battery light does not come on.

I was using voltmeter to touch terminal contacts on alternator plug but wasn't shoving the leads into them. I'll swap that connector out next then pull the alternator again if it don't work.

Thanks

I would stronly suspect the connector is your problem. Solder your splices.
