look for cobalt ss struts. same fitment as all the ions.
cobalts and ions both have very same setup, since the cobalt is based off of the ion.
instead of me getting the fe5s, i got kyb excel-g shocks, and megan racing springs.
id like to lower a little more to make it look more flush, but these new tires actually look better on than the old tires on the cp-10s, and i think these sized tires (205/45/17) i find is a better size than the stock 15s (196/60/15).
it handles a lot smoother, and speedo is dead on accurate.

all i need to do now is look into eventually getting new front rotors, rear brakes need to be changed since they are becoming noisy, and new exterior door panels.

and clyderp, your front led strips are extremely cleverly placed, why have i not thought about putting any there lol

You need a conversion kit with the fe5 though. Crate engine depot sells them. Even the redline needs the kit. Its a different top hate I believe.

just about everything powertrain and suspention is the same across the ions, cobalts, some hhrs, and pontiac g5. there is also the cavalier (03 and up), some saabs, and pontiac grand ams (03 and up) that also have the ecotech engines, but have limited compatability with as far as anything around the enging. in the 03-07 era (not sure about newer than 07) ecotechs were very commonly used in GM cars. the reason why saab is included is bec GM had partial ownership of saab, before they went bankrupt due to terrible designs and very low sales.

not to say you're completely wrong there but it seems between the cobalts and ions GM in their infinite wisdom changed just enough to be a pain in the ass trying to get cobalt parts on an ion while still using the same essential power train.

FE5s you need to use ion upper mounts (you can buy the kit but in reality its cheaper to buy the shocks/struts for ~ $315 and whatever springs you want)
the length of the cat back is different (cobalts are slightly shorter i believe)
different diameters in the intakes

stuff like that, it can be made to work, just not bolt right up

there are tid bits of things that are slightly different between the vehicles.
one example is that the muffler on the 'balts have 2 hangars, and the ions have 1. idk if the ions hangar is the same possition as one of the 'balts hangars tho.
iv also learned the hardway that wiper linkages are different in size between the two also. 'balts have shorter linkages than the ion, but luckily, the driver wiper mount is in the same position as the ions. youll just be left without a passenger wiper (not needed, right? lol).

The FE5 shocks and struts will bolt right up. But you need the Ion top hat, and longer sway bar end links.

I found a set for 170, but im looking into Koni Yellows now.

Yes, they are.
But if you read the reviews, theyre also a better product.
Im staying up tonight to watch ZZPs website.
I want the brembo upgrade kit. Maybe a new intake, if the price is right.
A phenolic spacer, and ill probably end up with other crap. Because wanna be racecar. LMAO
If I can get those Konis for under 600, game on. Everything else can wait then.

oh god.
my first muffler, was a magnaflow #14829, i had the res del, and it sounded great.
Then i added a cherrybomb glasspack in place of the res, and it made it super quiet.
then i got the whole cat back replaced with a kit, but for a while, i had to drive it with the exhaust halfwar chopped off, leaving the glasspack on, and the exhaust chopped a just before the bend to go over the rear axel. it sounded good, but was rediculously loud.
Now i have the 2.25" catback, but still have the stock header and DP, and it sounds good without being too loud.
What i really need done, hopefully soon, is to replace my header.
I want the LSJ DP, but i cant exactly just add it bec the bolt flange at the end of the DP is a 2 bolt, and the start of the DP that attaches to the DP is 3 bolt, so i would have to chop off the 2 bolt on the DP (cant do the catback bec its stailess steel), and weld on a 3 bolt flang to it.

i wanted to get the loud mouth exhaust for a cobalt, but there are some slight differences between the ion and balt's exhausts, and its almost $400 on ebay for it.

I just ordered a new header/dp for the car. If I can get everything out in one piece, it will be up for sale as I'm trying to get a new motor.
