Default Oil Leak Demons - Rear Main?

Hello all,

[the long story]

Clutch went out on a 1996 SW2. Replaced that, put everything back together, poured in new ATF only to watch it drain right out the bottom of the bellhousing. Turns out, I missed a crack in the material between the differential and the bellhousing. Replaced the transmission and reassembled. Noticed an oil leak with drips at the bottom of the flywheel inspection cover area, so I pulled everything apart again and pounded in a new rear main seal. Still got the same leak, so I replaced the rear main seal once more, this time by removing the seal retainer and oil pan, seating the new rear main seal in the retainer with a block of wood, re-gasketing both with Right Stuff, then installing it. Also swapped out the PCV, figured it was worth $2 to make sure I didn't have any wierd pressure buildup issues.

[the short story]

Its. still. leaking. Drips come from the bottom of the inspection cover area and vicinity thereof, between the block and bellhousing. I'd like to think I haven't messed up seating the rear main seal twice in a row...

Anyone have any ideas what could be going wrong? Is there an oil gallery plug or something I should've tightened/re-gasketed? The only thing I could think of was a failing bearing in the crankshaft allowing motion along it's axis, but there's no knock/squeel/bad bearing noise (except from the AC compressor, but that's a different story.)

REWARD EXCELLENCE!

Get a paper towel and dab at a fresh drip from the bell housing. Determine if it is ATF or engine oil. My guess is you have a leaking input shaft seal.

No, it's oil for sure. Pics attached for clarification, though I'm pretty sure we're on the same page...just to be certain, ya know.

Where it leaks is very difficult to tell as the fan and normal air flow distribute it evenly.

Look up on the head between the head and the EGR valve, there is a slight depression there. Clean it out and dry it out so there is no dirt or oil in there. And after the car has been driven and allowed to cool look in that depression for oil. Takes at least a 30 minute drive or at least enough for the engine to get up to normal temps for 15-20 minutes. Might have to watch this for a couple of days.
