2008 Outlook XR
2004 VUE 3.6L
Default 2008 Outlook Trans Replace by Dealer or Other

At 135,000 miles, the trans on my Outlook XR has suffered the 3-5-R Wave Plate failure. Won't shift out of 1st and no reverse. Dealer wants $5k to replace and I get a 3yr 100k mile warranty.
Other option appears to be to take it to a private shop for a rebuild or replacement with less warranty but cheaper price.

We had planned to keep the Outlook for another 3 years. It is in excellent shape with the only wear being on the drivers seat from entry/exit.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

...
Ordered 8/10, built 8/31, delivered 9/11, mine 9/22.
2008 Outlook XR FWD, White Diamond Tri-Coat, Tan Leather, Advanced Audio, Convenience, Enhanced Convenience, Premium Trim, Trailering Package!

REWARD EXCELLENCE!

Default Re: 2008 Outlook Trans Replace by Dealer or Other

2 things come to mind

1 a rebuild will reuse the tcm&solinoid assy again...these tcm's have a tendancy to have the tfp(trans fluid pressure switches) bellows fail after an overhaul around 30% of the time with in a yr or so..

2nd most rebuilders don't have the abilty to reprogram the tcm to the latest calibration or reprogram a new tcm..are they going to charge you to tow it over to a dealer for this or pad it in the bill..

..also if you are going to keep it 3 yrs the 100k war is a nice thing to have

...
shure you can trust the government, just ask us indians all about it...

heavy line the final protective fire line of the dealership
