Question 2007 Saturn Ion Recall

Hello, this is my first post and I was recommended to come to this site as there are "many experts on Saturn smarter than me"- AutoZone guy. I do not know much about cars but I am trying to help my neighbor who does not speak English very well. This is what happened. He came from the grocery store one summer morning, put the car in park, tried to take the key out and could not do it. Called AAA guy, he couldn't do much either. Took a car to a shop and they replaced his ignition cylinder I assume as now he is using a Chevy key to start his car and a Saturn key to open his door. All in all, $650.00 total price, four years ago. Now he has received a recall safety notice on ignition. It says that he should take his car to the GM dealer and have it replaced. Like I said, I am a girl and just want to be a good neighbor, so if somebody can tell me if his problem is consistent with the recall issues and would he potentially be able to get reimbursed for the cost he paid to the shop. From reading about the recalls, its more of cars having issues while driving. Anyway, thank you so much for reading my long question.

If I remember correct, I'm pretty sure my second recall letter, saying that the parts are now ready to be shipped out, came with a reimbursement form for any prior maintenance. I would look into that and see if that is covered under the recall.

Yes, this almost certainly is a reimbursement case under the recall. He should be able to be reimbursed for the repair. Ask him if he has receipts.

Yes, he received a reimbursement letter...called today GM dealer and they took his info, will call in a month when an item arrives. So people also had problems getting their key out of ignition?? It seemed that most of the problem was cars turning off...

I also had this problem, not being able to turn the car off. Only cost me around $250 though.....I'm about to get started on that reimbursal process.

Im getting my ignition changed when parts are available.does this recall include spare keys that I have? I have 2 spare keys. Will gm make me 2 spare keys free of charge?

theyll usually key the new ignition to your existing keys. if they dont, then youll be stuck with a set for the doors (if you dont have the fob), and one for ignition.

They cut two new keys when they install the new lock cylinder and switch. And they code the cylinder to be the same so your new keys will work in your doors also.

Speaking of recalls and not to go off topic. Has anyone received any letters regarding the power steering motor recall yet? I may have been out of the loop but are they still recalling that too?
