Post A Chevy So Exclusive That You Can Only Borrow, Not Buy

There's a new story referencing Saturn posted over at GMbeat.com.

The Chevrolet Captiva, which traces its lineage to the Saturn Vue, is a rare thing in the market: a vehicle that isn’t available to consumers but is offered only to fleet customers, like rental car companies.

Like all rental cars, after a certain mileage on the car, it is sent to dealer to be for sale. In my area, there are several captivias that are on dealer lots and general public own, so yes to start they are fleet only but are put out of fleet and avaliable to the public.

A lot of RV'ers use the Captiva as a 'toad' vehicle as it can be flat towed. And probably because a used Captiva is cheaper than a used Honda CRV, which is the most popular RV towed vehicle.

You may not be able to buy them brand spanking new, but when they come off fleet, they're up for grabs. I've seen a few used off-fleet Captiva Sport models for sale in my area.

The Captiva Sport and W-Body-based Impala Limited exist to provide an inexpensive vehicle for fleet buyers while helping to keep the resale values of the Equinox and LWB Epsilon II Impala models higher.

Hecho en Mexico. I had one Captiva rental with RKE issues. The manual switches worked fine, but not with the fobs. Another one the electric parking brake wouldn't release.

I did have one loaded Captiva, V6, sunroof and all the bells and whistles. It was pretty decent.

I had a RAV4 back to back with an Escape. I really didn't like the RAV4 as well. The ignition key location on the Escape is horrible. It's hidden by the large steering wheel.

Happy New Year everyone!

Go Saints!

There's a whole bunch of these cheapos floating around on the used market now. I seem to see a lot on the side of the road, not sure what's up with that.

I doubt it does anything for resale values, the Equinox and current Impala are still rental queens.
