Default What color primer was used?

I am replacing a deer damaged hood on the wife's car, it is the lovely black cherry color and the body shop guy asked me what color primer to use gray or black?
Any of you old Saturn tech know the answer?
I don't see how it would make much difference with a dark color but I am open to learning.

Hmmm, if the body shop guy has to ask you what primer to use, maybe you need a different body shop.... (Imagine the doctor asking you what size suture thread to use....) But generally, I would think it best to have a primer color that has some contrast to the finish color; makes it easier to see how complete a coverage of the finish coat you have.

I was taught years ago by a pro light color primer dark color paint and reverse dark primer light paint. I have never had an issue.
