2008 Astra XR
Default DIC replaced -> 12 hr clock

The Driver Information Center (info display) died on my wife's Astra a few weeks ago. No warning, just suddenly completely dead. Anyway, after 8 days (!) at the Chevy dealer to diagnose and repair, it's been replaced with a new one under our extended warranty.

The interesting part- the new display, which is the base 3-line model (as was our old one) only shows 12 hour time. My wife is actually a bit disappointed by this, it was part of the car's charm- but some may be happy to hear that apparently there is a solution out there. No part number listed on the receipt for the replacement display, however, so I'm not sure I can point anyone in a specific direction.

Side note, I'm hoping this isn't a sign of poor support to come with our cars. Dealer says our Astra was the first they've worked on, and they had to buy tools to do so. They were clearly frustrated, but to their credit they did stay in communication the whole time. Perhaps next time I will try a different dealer, or maybe a Euro car specialist once we are out of warranty.

As far as I know, the clock can be changed from 12 to 24h with a Tech2 tool, which the dealer would have used when programming the new screen to the car. They probably noticed it was 24h default when they first powered it up, figured they would do you a favor and switched it to 12h. How nice of them! You can always ask that they change it back if you like the 24h better.

nrramse- Thanks for the welcome!

smwalker- I think the service advisor said they had to buy the tools to get the radio out (we thought it was acting up as well), but it wasn't totally clear. They seemed pretty puzzled by the car in general, and I did learn through the process that GM basically forced them to take Saturn service but didn't provide much in the way of resources. Or so they say.

romanster- Good to know, though undoubtedly more trouble than its worth, at least with these guys. Makes sense that it can be changed, though that's actually the first reference I've seen to being able to do so on the base level (3-line) display.

Same story at my "dealer". They say only about one Astra comes in for service or warranty work every five or six weeks. They must be pretty much trouble free then? No, I would say more like poor support.
