Question 2004 Saturn Ion Transmission Fluid Change? HOW

I recently got a 2004 Saturn ion (series 1) 4 door with a automatic transmission and a 2.2 motor. I would like to change the transmission fluid because this car has 189,000 miles on it, however runs and shifts excellent. I googled the access fill/drain holes and looked on my transmission and I had neither drain/fill holes?
I called Oriellys and Autozone and they are telling me it is a non servicable transmission on the series 1?? Is this info correct or is there another way to flush my fluid? I changed my spark plugs to NGK and changed my oil and put a new fuel filter on it.

The parts counter folks are mis informed. There is a drain bolt underneath the car. Drain and refill with Toyota IV transmission (yes it is the correct fluid for the 4 door 2004 Ion Aisin made transmission) and refill with same amount. The dipstick tube does have a small bolt holding the tube/cap on. Remove it, place a funnel in and pour. Simple. Might have to do 2 or 3 drain and fills over the next 100 miles to achieve a thorough exchange of fluid.

The drain plug is a 24mm hex. It is the lowest "bolt" on the engine side of the transmission.

Fill via the dipstick. It's yellow and held in place by a 12mm bolt. You will need a funnel, and fill slowly. The fluid is expensive and hurts when it spills on the garage floor.

Toyota T-IV is the fluid you need, and the Toyota dealer is cheaper than chevy. A drain and fill on mine takes a bit over four quarts. I would buy five.

They never said they have a sedan, but I think only sedans came in level 1 (not series). Don't karten to buckeyegirl, the drain hole is on the side of the trans case behind the frame rail. Above it is a "fill to" hole, once fluid drains out of this hole, it's full.

If you have a coupe, it's a different story.

On my 2003, it's the only 24mm hex "bolt". It's on the engine side of the transmission and is the lowest bolt. It's on the side, not the bottom. I fill via the dipstick and a long funnel.

I don't know about a fill to plug, I just kept checking with the dipstick. Mine takes just a bit over four quarts on a drain and refill. I wouldn't want to remove the wrong bolt (thinking its a fill to hole) and have something fall apart inside.

2004 should have the same transmission, provided it's the sedan. The quad coupes in 2003-2004 all had the VTI. That's a whole different animal that you don't want.

Saturn changed the transmissions on both in 2005 model year.

Saturn put the drain and fill to holes in the same general area for all but the vti. Only use toyota or saturn t-iv fluid.

Ok i will get the toyota fluid but as far as drain hole goes i will put it on a lift and inspect.its on the engine side of the transmission.hmmm anyone out there got a pic. I see torx bolts but they hold the casing on. Theres not 1 seprate tirx bolt that resembles a drain plug. Hmm

yeah i mean a change not a flush . so change fluid with toyota stuff and drive maybe a full tank of gas about 300 miles and change fluid again? and why did saturn put a bolt on the dip stick? i would never of guessed that was a dip stick and ive been in the collision business for 12 years.

Yes. I think that was aisin's call, but think about it, the more sealed the transmission, the longer the fluid can last.
