Default Glove Box Door

What keeps the glove box door closed? There's a pull latch on the door but it doesn't seem to do anything and I can open the box by pulling in the corner of the door? Is it magnetic?

There are two latches that come out from the side on the door. You seeing those?

If you pull the opener they retract.

Thanks I see them now.

They move real slow when it's cold outside

It is a poor design, I had the same issue. Fixed it by separating the two pieces and replacing with a stronger spring, basically just took the old one and matched up at local auto parts store with something beefier.

If you're still reading the forum, could you let me know what you had to do to separate the pieces? Did you have to use adhesive to rejoin them, or are there clips, etc.? I had a brief look at mine the other day but it was really resisting coming apart, and I didn't want to break anything.

I haven't had time to look at the problem in any more depth.

Darn car, only 140,000 miles, and it's already had its first problem.

Sorry for resurrecting an old thread but my Mom`s XE is experiencing the same issue, the tabs don't move out enough to engage the holes.
Actually, one doesn't move much at all. How does one access the latch mechanism?
TIA

Here is another thread where one user took the glove box apart and replaced the spring:

http://www.saturnfans.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=189729

I want to do this as well, but the description of how to open it up is a little vague (could have used a couple more photos).

If I ever get around to performing this "surgery" I'll be sure to post - cold weather is here and with it the season where I dread ever needing to open the glove box.

Thanks for the link, it was helpful. I may do the cabin filter while I`m in there, that looks like fun.
I`ll report back when done.
