Default ION fuel economy

Just curious what type of fuel economy REAL world ION owners have been getting (if anyone's keeping track).

The Motoring 2003 review said they averaged 9L/100KM (about 37 MPG) with the 5sp auto which is NOT terrible like most reviewers are stating. They actually said 9L/100KM in real world driving was very competetive.

I'm getting 31 MPG with fairly mixed driving. The engine isn't broken in yet though, and I'm expecting about 35. Mine's a manual.

9L per 100KM is actually about 26 MPG, which is normal for the ION with auto in mixed driving (more city, actually). However, don't be fooled by EPA estimates. In the real world, competitors cars perform the same, or slightly better at max than the ION (www.consumerguide.com is a good reference).

Since I get 31 MPG, that's about 7L per 100KM.

Y2Chuck;
There is something wrong with that fuel economy figure from Motoring 2003.
9L/100KM converts to 31 mpg,not 37 mpg in Canada.

Still not quite right.

The formula is typically about 235.2/#L for US MPG. You are referring to Imperial gallons, it's 282.5 (Don't ask me why).

235.2/9 = 26.1

26 US MPG = 9.046 L/100km = 31.2 IMP MPG

Confused yet?

1.0 US gallons = 3.79 liters = 0.833 Imperial gallons

I seem to get 30MPG (US--hehe) not matter what. This is with 1900 miles on my odometer, with mixed city/highway driving, and mixed with "nice" and "almost hard" driving.

That makes more sence. Altho, 31 MPIG is still reasonable in a mix of city/highway.

I've never really calculated mine with the SC2 as a comparison. I work at home so I only need to fill up every 3 months....

I went about 450 miles before I got gas last weekend. I am averaging about 30mpg mixed driving and 35mpg highway. With the larger gas tank I am getting around the same distance as my old SL1. Mine is a manual too.

I'm getting about 31 MPG on a mix of City and 80mph Highway driving, with 5000 miles on my manual ION 1.

Question

ZB;

I don't see any confusion. I said 9l at 100KMH works out to 31 MPG in Canada and you said the same thing. My conversion table shows 9L=1.98 Imp Gals and 100KMH=62 MPH and 62/1.98 comes up as 31.3 MPG.

Have I missed something?

I missed that you were referring to imperial gallons, even after I posted the same number after the fact.
