Default Hot fuel pump relay (just fixed A-2 aka F-5/F-2 connection)

Okay! So I fixed up the infamous A-2 wire in the fuse box on the passenger side fuse box. Cleaned up the wire and cleaned up the matching prongs. Then my problems all went away! Car started beautifully, security light does not flash while driving, the dome light works, the radio and the air conditioning do not randoming shut off while driving.

but then....

My fuel pump relay (oposite of A-2 wire) is getting insane hot! AND rpm's are being crazy all over the place!!!

Everything else is working fine so why would my fuel pump relay be acting all kinds of crazy? Is that connection making enough contact for every other problem I had but not enough for the relay????

(I tried a brand new relay to no avail)

Please help.

Is the relay buzzing?

It is entirely possible that the internal connection to the relay power side is defective(high resistance) as a consequence of the A-2 failure. Feel the panel under the relay and see if it is also hot.

Do you have a spare relay? Check the rating (amps) of the fuel pump fuse in the panel.

The fuel pump is a 10amp fuse.
On the wiring diagram the fuel pump relay part of the circuit also provides power to the automatic transmission solenoids. Go feel the TRS fuses in the engine compartment fuse box and see if any of those 3 fuses or the surrounding panel are hot as well.

Use this site to locate a replacement I/P panel. http://car-part.com Enter the obvious info and on the part search use fuse box, it is in the dropdown. The next screen comes up and sks about interchange, just accept the default here. looks like you can get the I/P panel for 35$ or so. Will have to call a couple of yards to check. The dist column will sort if you click on it so you can see what is close.
