Default 2001 L200 - Passlock issues

Hi guys. The BCM in my 2001 L200 went nuts and then completely died, and I replaced it with a used BCM from a junkyard. Unfortunately, I cannot get the passlock relearn procedure to work. I have read literally dozens of threads on this site and seen several variations of the 30 minutes procedure, all of which I have tried.

The problem is this: when I turn the key to START and then release it to RUN, the security indicator flashes quickly several times, but then slows down and flashes at a longer interval (oddly, sometimes it's 10 seconds and sometimes its 20). I was under the impression that it was supposed to flash quickly for the entire ten minutes. What's more, it doesn't seem to stop flashing, even after waiting far more than ten minutes. I have tried just going through the cycle every 10-15 minutes even though the light is still intermittently flashing, but that doesn't work.

Any ideas as to what's going on or how I can fix it? If there were already DTCs stored on the BCM when I got it, could that be causing this issue? Did I just buy another bad BCM?

Update: There are no DTC codes on the new BCM. Aren't there supposed to be codes that indicate when the VATS system has been engaged?

What you're trying to do is not a relearn, it's a new learn, needs to be done by a GM TECH II machine.
Most code readers won't read BCM codes as BCM is proprietary company information. Need an expanded code reader to read BCM codes.

Actually a relearn can be done at home via the 30-minute procedure, repeating the 10-minute ign ON cycle three times. GM will use their Tech II to do it in one 10-minute cycle. Direct from the service manual.

There are no codes with successfully performing a relearn procedure. The security indicator is the only way to tell what state Passlock security is in. If you have the owner's manual, it should have information about it.

I know that. My problem is that it isn't working - the security light never stops flashing.

1-Well, was power completely removed when the bcm was replaced?

2-Are you sure all connections were made without issues like bending a pin or two?

3-Any ground wires that were disconnected reconnected?

4-What guarantee came with the used bcm?

5-Did you let more than 10 minutes go by to see if the security light changes state?

6-Is the battery fully charged?

7-Is the power going to the bcm clean and free from corrosion on any terminal?

There are many issues with vehicle electronics that aren't plug n' play that also requires careful attention to details as mentioned above. Something as simple as not using static protection procedures may cause destruction of sensitive electronics without notice.

What caused the original bcm to fail?
