Default windshield washer

just noticed that the windshield washer stopped working on my wagon. the wipers function fine otherwise, but neither the wipers nor the washer pump turn on when the stick is pulled. bad switch?

This is going to take a little work to check.Get to the wiper motor and remove the electrical connector. Now probe the brown wire at the connector with your red lead from the multimeter and the black lead to ground set the meter to the ohm scale.Turn the switch to the wash setting and observe the meter there should now be a different reading. If the meter shows no difference in reading the switch is faulty. Now if you saw movement at the meter then there is a high probability that the motor slash microprocessor is faulty. You can confirm this by replacing the electrical connector and checking for voltage at the pink wire at the washer motor.

Is this for the front wipers or the rear wiper?

Check the washer wiper motor that is in the wiper fluid tank.

I would also follow Richpin's post as well.

What is the condition of the stalk on the steering column?

thanks to everyone for the responses (especially richpin, great info!)

so, this issue got pushed to the rear burner. i've since discovered that if i pull the stalk back just short of the stop that the washer and wipers turn on and function like they're supposed to. so the new question is: what year wiper stalks are compatible with my '95 sw2?

You should be able to use any 95 up SW combination switch.

Rockauto says '95-'98 or '95-'01 SW's (ACDELCO branded part says '95-'98 and ACDELCO should be stock/OEM), but I wouldn't be surprised if it's really a year specific part.

Nothing year-specific about the combination switch. Does have to be for a wagon, of course. First thing I'd try is to figure out just what moves in the switch when you activate the washers, and hit that with aerosol electronics cleaner. Long-shot, but it might just restore normal op.

there are three compatible SWs at the upull yards here, shouldn't be exorbitant.
