2001 SC2
Default Ignition switch problem

2005 Vue fwd 3.5L
The ignition switch seems to turn easily to any position except ACC to LOCK. Also when I attempt to remove the key it will sometimes get stuck half way out. At this point I cannot turn the key, insert it, or remove it. I have to forcibly pull on the key to remove it.

I read through the Service Bulletin #06-02-35-016A about cleaning and lubing the Cylinder Housing but this doesn’t seem to pertain to my situation since it moves well to all positions except ACC to LOCK. Could there be a problem with the Park Lock?

How do I remove the Trim Cover under the steering column? I see screw holes at the bottom. What type of screwdriver do I need to remove these screws? Then what?

REWARD EXCELLENCE!

Do you have a brand-spanking new key to try?

Contact a local GM dealer to see if they can cut one using your VIN.

You should be able to "pop" the upper trim cover off by inserting finger in hole above the turn signal switch and giving a sharp tug upward.

The bottom trim cover is held in-place by three hex-head 5.5 mm (7/32)screws.

The transmission PARK cable is mounted on bottom of ignition switch ... its held in place with plastic clips and is generally either secured or falls free - I used a sturdy cable-tie once to keep it in place.

I can email service manual extracts to remove the key cylinder from the lock housing for inspection and cleaning. Send address by PM if interested.

BTW ... you might call a local locksmith to see what they think ... they could have parts (and skills) to make your Vue whole again at less expense than a GM dealer.

...
Not a professional mechanic - advice and data are free - PM email address if I'm not logged on.
