Sad How to Replace the Ignition Switch

Hi, I have a 98 SL1, 5 speed with 185,000 miles.
I need to replace the Ignition Switch, not the key cylinder.
I have the covers around the steering column removed, and can get to the Ignition Switch.
There are 2 screws holding it onto the key cylinder housing. I can loosen the lower screw, but as I back it out, it hits a metal bracket, and I can't get it out any farther.
Can anyone tell me what the next step is? Do I need to remove the steering wheel, and other parts to be able to get the whole Ignition Switch-Key Cylinder assembly out?

Thanks for your help.

Take a crescent wrench to that metal piece and tweak it out of the way.

Actually, I never messed with that metal piece when I did mine. Get yourself a Craftsman 5.5mm ignition box wrench and you're good to go

There's one for sale on Grainger.com; catalog ID# 19D016

and Shawn, what exactly does that metal piece control? Is that for the tilt steering, or is it unnecessary, or..?
