My friend has a '98 Civic Ex Manual. I have an SW2 Automatic. I won. He should have kicked my ass, but he can't shift.

Also, about a year later going down a backroad, he claimed his Taurus could keep up with me. Needless to say, it couldn't. At about 70 around a 30mph curve, he lost control, did a 360 through a fence, and ended up in a field. Car was totaled.

Unlike many people on this board, I have respect for Hondas, and I will admit that I have lost to a whole lot of them in the "stop light gp". I don't race anymore though. It's best to save it for the track.

I totally agree. I may pick on Honda's occassionally just for HonDUH's sake.. Yet, that SI is seriously wicked and I have seen a fair share of Civics that just run circles around my car. Mods for these things are like mods for chevy 350's. EVERYWHERE and CHEAP...
Anyway, I have a recent good track story.
Went out to the ol' track a couple weekends ago for a test and tune day.
First run I get pitted against a Mustang GT (oh, 96+ model). It's black, it sounds nice, and the license plate said "Scary GT". Guy looks at me funny as I am putting my helmet on. I am like "What???" So innocent. I was going for innocent until the announcer decided to let everyone know, Oh yea, I was gonna cream this GT.... Yet that driver wasn't convinced.
Until the lights came down. My good ol' girl took off like a rocket and he was right on my tail until the 1/8th mile. Then I just gained on him like it was nothing. My 14.24 to his 14.98 (I went on to run two back to back 14 flats after that). I think it upset him because he parked in the pits and never went back to the staging lanes after that. At least not that I know of..
I felt kind of bad because the announcer is a friend and he was just funnin' with the guy. I mean, it sure got the crowd's attention because I was told that most of them couldn't believe a Saturn would outrun a Mustang..
I just love the looks on their faces when that car flies to the other end. Ahhhh, the power of the juice. THANK YOU LORD for the mighty nitrous!!!! hehehe

2001 SL2 vs 96 V6 Camaro

124HP baseline FWD vs 200 HP baseline RWD

My car had 4 occupants including myself...the camaro had a driver...you see his car twist a bit as he gets on the gas when the light goes green...we both launch.

He was 3 carlengths behind and falling at 60 MPH...never got an inch ahead (even on launch where he had the RWD advantage).

It wasn't fair tho...my car had been modified

at the dragstrip during test-n-tune, they lined me up (96 sc2) against a 96-98 mustang gt (4.6L V8). i smoked him with a 15.7 or 15.8 to his 16.something. it turned out that mustang gt was an automatic. the next time around, another mustang gt automatic, same result. the lesson here is: friends don't let friends buy *automatic* mustang gt's.

I'm going to take that a step further and say "Friends don't let friends buy automatics"

I've never raced...ever. Street racing, in my opinion, is an excercise in stupidity that's almost as dumb as drunk driving. I've also never gone to a track to race or anything of the sort. Never had the time or enough interest. However, I guess you could say I "won" a street race. I was coming home from my girlfriends house late at night when a 280ZX filled with teens (blasting Hotel California) tried to race me. I, of course, refused but the driver apparently didn't get the idea. I didn't care but what made it funny is that when the light turned green, he stalled out and received laughs from those waiting for a bus.

I have too many marks on my car from the kills I have done.

Give you an example of the difference from stock:

92 headers, cold air intake, 55mm TB, lost the AC, coil overs to reduce weight, KONIG lightweight rims, 205/50 15" tires to reduce over-all gearing, Phantom Grip (heaviest springs), 7.25 lb flywheel, performance clutch, catty-kitty "modified", no power steering, lower rated alternator, err that's all...

So, I've taken out at lights (from what I can remember right at this moment):

A friend of mine's 2000 Mustang v6 Auto - I had 3 other people in my car, he didnt have anyone. Needless to say, he traded that car for a v8 5 speed

Civic SI's (too many to count)
Acura Integra GSR
Acura Integra (after market turbo'd)
Monte Carlo SS & Z34
Mustang GT v8 (auto)
VW VR6
Grand Prix GTP
Cadillac STS
Yeah, any Camaro v6
Impala SS
Neon (had some good mods to it too)
Probe GT (it was modified very well- it was close)
Eagle Talons / Mitsu's Eclipse (Turbo'd)
Prelude (BORING)

That's the only ones I can think of right now... Too many good stories, so little GB :-)

mine were at a drag strip during test-n-tune grudge match nights, NOT street "racing". open track events on road courses are fun too. i've caught and passed v8 mustangs, firebirds, camaros, corvettes there too. they hate that!

Z24s have 2.4 liter twin cam engine that make 150 hp, and the car is over 100 lbs. lighter than yours.

I have a story for the oddest drag race!!! I have seen a '94 Chevy S-10, stock, race a ~'99 Cavalier Z24 with an intake, both automatic. My friend who drives the S-10 thinks he's really cool, and that the S-10's fast, and I just tell him it is to shut him up. Then he's telling me that he's going to race a Z24. I just about laughed in his face, but I said, "I'll watch!" He got creamed. The S-10 has a 4.3 liter V6, but it's not geared for drag racing, and plus he had no traction.

My kill list:
-early '90s Accord with a fart pipe (4-cylinder model)
-mid '90s Civic SI, 5-speed (possibly because he stalled )
-'92 Toyota Corolla, auto (my friend actually thought this car was fast, until I was 4 car lengths ahead of him in second gear, he doesn't brag much anymore)

well in my old eagle talon T.T. 5 or 6 speed(forget) raced agains a bunch of retards back home bone stock i took out most of the mustang v6's and etc.. but i never modified it and sold it before i moved and went to college. but with the saturn my friend has a 2000 v6 mustang convertable auto we raced and i would get him off the line and stay with him or a little ahead of him until the last 1/8th of the quarter mile he would get like half a car length ahead and win. but that was bone stock now i win hehe

intake, auto sl1, strut tower bar.

The SL2 has:

Ram air
56mm throttle body
cleaned up intake manifold
ported head with valve job
back cut valves
cleaned up exhaust manifold
gutted pre cat
fatter (higher flow) fuel pressure regulator
solid engine mounts
carbon clutch
12.5lb flywheel (was 14 lbs when I raced the 'maro)
green spring phantom grip
lightweight miata wheels (not installed when i beat the 'maro)
7mm rear knuckle and 5mm front hub spacers (plus I gain another cm of track width from the offset of the miata wheels)
front and rear strut tower braces
rear 17.5mm swaybar set to next to stiffest setting
chopped shifter.

My buddy Elroy made some cool desktop pictures of it:

I got done by a 2.2 cavy the other day. My car farted off the line, or else I would have got him. I just messed up the launch. I really gained on him when I was in the powerband, around 5500, and then my car gave me the best 1-2 shift ever, and I backed off because I like my license. i wish I had a 5 speed.

i was on my way to work in the right lane when this older chevy nova (86 and up) pulls out of a parkin lot and guns it...obvious because of the smoke pouring from the tailpipe...i pulled along side even to them and was cruisin steady...the passenger looked over at me like "why is he still next to us??!" finally they started to pull away from me.....i tried to give it all i had but i could only muster about 32mph....oh yeah..i was on my bicycle...~laughin~
as far as in my car tho.....i dont stop light race too much cuz it IS just an SOHC with 130,000 miles..but it does VERY well in corners, esp exit ramps...i cant count the times i've had a hopped up car behind me weavin back and forth then get to te exit ramp and just drop into third and fly around like im on rails...meanwhile u see their car nose dive in a panic and get all loose..then once im on the next road and just cruisin along they come flyin past like...10 seconds later and stare at me like they dusted me or somethin...enuff to make a grown man giggle...hahhaha
