Default Retain DIC functions with aftermarket radio?

Sooooo some of you may know, people have been to retain the settings button with an adapter that uses controls on stearin wheel. I have a 4d Saturn Astra XE which does not have steering wheel controls and I'd like to retain the DIC window stuff like mpg, stopwatch, trip, range etc.

Being that I don't have the steering controls I looked for some aftermarket. I found one made by metra. Here is the PDF link http://www.metraonline.com/files/pro...RFASWC_web.pdf

Here is the thread where it was noted people are using steering wheel controls to access the settings menu.

Could an aftermarket switch that installs on steering wheel get the same result?

No, I don't think that would work. You could control the new stereo with those, but not the trip computer.

Your best bet is finding the steering wheel controls in a junk yard, or a headunit (eonon, vxmmi) that retains the BID/GID controls.

In order to retrofit the Astra steering wheel controls, they have to be programmed in by a dealer with tech2.
