Default Cylinder 1 & 4 Misfire

2001 SL2 auto 4 door about 100xxx miles

After doing a head gasket, the car is running on cylinders number 2 and 3 only.

Replaced coil pack on 1 & 4 and the plug wires are getting nothing. The igntion module passed autozones test, so i replaced the coil pack on 1&4 and the plug wires and cylinders are still not firing at all. Ingectors are firing and i also replaced the coolant sensor in the side of the head. It has new plugs, they were autolite double platinum but i read to run NGK so i replaced them with NGK single platinums. Still nothing.

Please, help before i set the car on fire and push it off of a bridge!

thnaks!

If I'm correct I believe it's supposed to be coppers not plantium plugs. Have you done a compression test? Also, any DTCs?

DTC?

The issue im having is absolutely no spark to plug wires 1&4. They ignition moduel is good as well as the coil packs.

I just bought what autozone had for sake of trouble shooting, the double platinum were special order and i didnt want to wait...

DTC is fancy for check engine light. Also, I'm assuming the previous head gasket was blown?

Whats the SES? Also, did you check for head and block flatness with a straightedge when you replaced the head gasket?

i'm not sure what the SES is and cant take it anywhere to have it checked due to lack of license plates and insurance.
i did not check anything with a straight egde. the car was disassembled, cleaned, and reassembled.

im not sure whats going on. The plugs in 1 and 4 are covered in and smell like gas. the plugs in 2 and 3 come out covered in soot.

Go to a wrecking yard and get an ignition module from the same year car and try it.
If you have spark on 1-2 and none on 1-4 then the module is the best suspect. I have seen a few modules that fail for one coil only.

There are arguments wether any kind of electrical testing at the local auto parts store is accurate. Failure is possible during operating conditions but can pass a test.
