1993 SL2
Default 1993 Saturn SL2 Speedo jumpy after 65 mph

I've searched the forum before i posted, i didn't find a definitive answer. thats why i'm making this post.

i own a 1993 Saturn SL2 with a speedometer that gets inaccurate once you go about 65mph. it jumps within a 10mph range. so, once i hit 70mph, it jumps from 65-75. it is random, but this is the best description i can give. if i go 80, it usually jumps 75-85. again, that's not 100% all the time. (I've been driving by using gps, or looking at the tach.)

what else isn't working on my cluster. the odometer and the TRIP; I'm assuming that this is a broken gear, i haven't taken it apart to verify. the odometer and trip have been broken for years, and i simply haven't cared enough to fix it.

i spun a bearing and pulled the motor out, had it rebuilt 3 years ago, installed it and everything has since worked as normal. recently, about 2 months ago, that's when the speedometer started getting a mind of its own about 65mph.

my question is, what's causing my speedometer to jump around after 65?
could it be the VSS or something else? i tried to give as much info as i can predict that you'd need.

thanks for you help.
michael

These are the gears for the odometer and this may be part of the speedo problem. http://www.odometergears.com/product...eries+91-94/62

I have the same thing on my 1992 sl2. Sometimes speedometer stops working. Sometimes it goes crazy and the coolant and brake lights flash on and off while its going crazy.

The gears are pricey but worth every penny if you want the odometer and trip meter to function correctly again.
