Default Running car without egr??

Will my '95 Saturn SC2 run properly without EGR?
It's a LeMons car and I can't find egr adapter (early to late egr valve), and was was wondering if it would run normally with EGR blocked off. Not worried about idiot lights or passing smog, but it needs to run normally and not trip some fault code or "limp home" mode. Thanks.

It will set a fault code--that's what turns the check engine light on. Other than the light being on, you shouldn't notice any immediate problems.

The only possible issue is that the EGR valve helps to prevent excessive heat in the combustion chamber. With everything working perfectly, you will probably be fine with it blocked off, however, if you have any other problems (even very minor ones) it will increase the risk of damage (typically burned exhaust valves).

There are many people that have run block-offs on Saturns for years. There are 1-2 that blame the block-off for a burnt valve (but have no proof).

You can cut a block-off plate out of a piece of aluminum (must be a lot thicker than an aluminum can), or buy one (I think places like summit carry them).

'95 car shouldn't need the adapter. Or is it a transplanted earlier engine?

I'm assuming it's an older engine/head. If it has the correct year head, obviously you won't need an adapter to use the matching EGR.

Thanks and yes, a '91 cylinder head I happened to have with 5,000 miles and flat valves.I've used the '95 timing cover so all the mounting will work.

Better fab or find something; purchasing a plate might put you over the LeMons expense limit .
