Um, no. Saturns are extremely high quality cars. I have an SL1 from 1996 and I've had ZERO problems. Some people here have had problems with first year models, but that happens with any first yr model make. I back Saturn 100%. You'll also like the service--they're always rated high in that category. Racer1, I voted for the L300 without first looking at your profile. If you need the space and like to drive fast and like automatic over stick shift, my vote stands. If you like to shift gears and want to look sporty then pick up an SC2. Either way they are both great cars! BTW I've had both engines and liked them for different reasons. Fuel economy would sway me to the SC2 if I were still around 20 years old.

Yes, Saturns are EXTREMELY noisy. I missed 5 calls in my car this weekend, because I couldn't hear the phone ring over the road noise.

They're noisy, lol... especially at higher speeds. But they're cheap... good gas milage and *very* low insurance rates. They're really safe, too... I hear they pretty much compare to Volvo. I don't know how true that is, but I'd feel safer in my Saturn than I would in a Civic

There IS no L200 or L300 in the 2000 model year; there is an LS, LS1 and LS2 (LS/LS1 with I4, LS2 with V6)...

I would stay away from the 2000 L-Series as this 2000 was the first model year. You could be buying into problems. Something to think about for those buying an Ion.

I would look into the SC2, you get the updated interior, while still having the second-gen body. There is road noise at highway speeds, but nothing like ProDarwin said, either they improved it by 2000, or there is something wrong with his car. It's not annoyingly loud, but it's there.

I supposedly am one of the lucky ones to have a good build 2000 LS2. No problems but the rack which was fixed immediately by the dealership.

If you are looking for an L series, I would think about trying to go for a new 2002 L300. You can pick them up for super cheap right now.

Duuuuuuuuude, SC2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! hands down.

Are you a geezer, a mod, or a rocker?

If you're a rocker, get the SC2 if it's a 5 speed, slap an Alpine system in it. You'll feel the road you'll become one with the road, and with the Alpine, you'll rock on down the road.Bwaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaahhhhaaaaaaaa!

What road noise!?!?!? I never ever ever hear any road noise when I'm cruisin' in my 99SC2, the Alpine is talkin' to me and the rest of the world, lol.

Cell phone we dont need no stinkin' cell phones in cars. They should be banned from cars!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I, too have heard bad things about the 2000 L-series. Go with a newer L if you must-

but the SC2 is the sweetest car Saturn ever made!

I would say try to find like a 2001 L200(I love the Ecotec engine) not the 00 LS1 there were still some glitches. And with prices as low as they are now there wouldnt be much of a price difference

I've had both types - but in wagon (93 SW2; 00 LW1, 02 LW200)

Take the SC2 unless you need the extra space or the headroom of the L.
