Wrench How to Convert Marker Lights to LED

I've been getting my SL2 ready for safety inspections, so I was checking the lights. I noticed that one of the marker lights was out. Turns out the wire had corroded and the bulb broke in the socket, so I couldn't simply put in a new bulb. That's where I got this idea.

Tools:Knife or thin screwdriver to separate the lens halves.
Items:Flex LED, Amber 8" (it's a pair of 4" strips), silicone sealant to hold the lens together afterwards.
If you do break a lens, you can get it here.

Sorry about the picture quality. This was an older phone.

First, I took both lenses and separated them. This is very tough to do without breaking something! Be careful!

After I cleaned the inside of the lens, I inserted the LEDs in the lens. I ran the wires out the hole where the socket used to mount. I'd recommend sealing that hole to prevent moisture from getting in.

Then I put the lens back together and installed them.

This is before (obviously this is the working one),

and this is after,

It was definitely brighter, and the best part is, no more bulb burnout!

I plan on eventually doing the turn signal hack, where these lights blink with the turn signals.

What do you guys think? First mod and first how-to ever!

This might be a dumb question, but why not just use the wedge style LED that plugs in with no modification?

Should be either of the first two.

edit: Oh, I see. Your's has more length inside the reflector then the bulb style. Makes me think you need a longer strip to fill the whole thing...

The proper way to fix a S-Series automatic is to replace it with a 5spd O:)

Well, my socket was corroded beyond repair. That's the main reason.

Plus, I like the look of the light source being spread out. Seems like a more efficient use of the lens area.

EDIT: After looking at that site, I will definitely be using them in the future.Thanks.
