Default Saturn Ion 2 (2007) Ignition Lock or ignition Switch Manual Transmission

I have a 2007 ION 2 (Manual) and just a few days ago I could not get the key to turn off and disengage. I am able to take the key out of the ignition lock cylinder and I can turn the car off, when I disconnect the cable to the ignition switch, I can also start the car.

My first question is, does this sound like a bad ignition lock cylinder or ignition switch? Secondly, does a manual transmission have a BTSI or not, if it does where is it located?

Thanks, iz

Manuals don't have/need btsi, they instead have a neutral safety switch, and I would normally say the lock cylinder, but there could be more going on than that...

Could it be the "neutral safety switch"? Do you know where it is located?

Thanks,
iz

No. if ours had one, it would be on the shifter or linkage, or transmission. Our cars have a clutch switch, which serves the same purpose in practice, but it also shouldn't cause this. Shifter sensors on manuals just keep you from starting it in gear.

Got it.

I think I will take the approach of removing the ignition lock cylinder first and seeing if the tumbler plate is lose.

I will post my results in a few days

Thanks,

That did the trick!

It was the plate on the Ignition Lock Cylinder. I removed it per the direction in the link (previous post) and added a little Super Glue.

Thanks for the counsel, greatly appreciated.
