Default New Saturn Owner from Warsaw, IN

Hi guys,

I just bought a blue 2002 SL with 96,000 miles. I'm the second owner. The only options the first owner got on it were the CD player. I'm looking to replace that with a radio that has a 3.5mm input. This is my first stick shift, so it's going to be an experience. I managed to kill it at a stop light this morning, fortunately it was not a busy intersection and nobody honked.

It will just take a little practice and you will have it. Before you know it you will be shifting without even thinking about it.

I am new too. I don't currently have a Saturn yet, but I am looking to get one soon.

Thanks, guys! I'm already getting a lot better. It really helps that Indiana is pretty flat, but there are a couple of stop signs where you have to start out going up hill. It also helps that I still have the old car, a 1995 Olds 88 with a 4 speed automatic.

Also, I found an FM transmitter which seems to be working quite well, so I think I'll be sticking with the stock radio.

Well, off to search for information about possibly getting a taller final drive and how to do a tune-up.

On a hill it's best to put on the parking brake. Let out the clutch slowly and when you feel 1st gear engage let off the parking brake. Once you get more comfortable with the clutch you won't even need the parking brake.

Where I stalled last Sunday was just inside Winona Lake, at the bushes that say "Winona".

I bought the Saturn in South Bend. There was a 2001 SL1 (actually, I think it might have been an SL2, because I'm thinking it might have had the DOHC engine) here in Warsaw for sale at a dealer. I took a friend who could drive a stick shift and test drove the 2001. I was getting ready to spring for it when I saw the 2002 listed.

The asking price on the 2002 was $2500. The asking price on the 2001 was $2000. I offered $1500 cash for the 2001, and the dealer came back with $1900. I walked away. By the time I put new tires on it and fixed the other few minor issues (like the reverse lights not working), and dealt with tax, title, and license, we're talking $2500 or more. When I saw the 2002 listed on Craig's List, I thought "a year newer, and 50,000 fewer miles-- that sounds like it'd be worth $500 more". Turns out it had just had new tires put on it to boot. I ended up paying $2,200 for the 2002 SL, which was more than I wanted to, but that's another story in and of itself.

When we bought it, the front axles had to be replaced. Beyond that, the only thing "broken" is the trunk's remote release.
