Something has gone wrong. The code you pulled 1336 causes the SES to flash. The flashing service lamp is caused as whatever it is upset bout is clearing periodically. The degraded performance is related somehow. Parts store can not read all the codes.

You need a good shop to take a look at it. The dealer would be your best bet.

Please inform me on what exactly a quad driver failure would mean, i have heard that there are two of them, and if the B quad driver failure occurs, then it is possible it could cause problems with timing and spark...is this true? And if this is true, then would reflashing the computer work or a new computer. the code for Quad driver B came back again after this and it seems like it at least seems plausible...

There are 2 of them, A and B. Neither one have anything to do with ignition or the fuel delivery. Primarily the lights and FAN and A/C relay. The flashing service light is indicative of a short to ground on a monitored driver. The SES code is not credible. It will take a good scanner to figure out what is going on. By good I mean the ones you find at he dealers and not the parts stores. Most likely problem is a couple of wires are shorting to the fire wall where they pass through to the PCM.

These are all the items that will turn on the Service lamp, cruise and ABS are not quad driver item.

When you turn the key on and let it sit the PCM runs a bulb check, all required bulbs have to light. Check this and insure that all of these bulbs perform as described.
SES - ON and stays on until the car is started.
Service wrench - ON and then OFF
Up-shift lamp -ON then OFF manual transmission only
Low Coolant/Hot lamp - ON then OFF
Low Fuel lamp -ON then OFF (may not have one on a 97 or earlier, check your owners manual)

Do you have cruise control?

If you start the A/C by pushing the A/C button does the engine cooling fan come ON? Check this with the engine idling so you can hear the fan. Only does this if the ambient temperature is above 40F and the cabin blower is on.

Do you have ABS, Traction control? Are the indicators functioning properly?
Does operating the hand brake cause the BRAKE light to come on and go off as expected?

Only with a high buck scanner can you read all the tables that tell you what is going on. You have too many things happening to be easy to fix as a DIY project.

So basically you've convinced me of what I need to do, but what do you suggest I do to try finding or fixing the idle problem? Change plugs, coils (i have them), plug wires?

The high idle may very well be part of the same problem. There is an old TSB that discusses the wiring to the PCM shorting out on the fire wall where it passes from the engine compartment to the PCM. You have enough non related things going on that this is something to be looking at.

There are several relating to what I suggested you do in regards to cleaning out sockets and plugs, it is not an unknown issue.
