Default small tiny hole in muffler

while i was having new tires put on car, i saw really small hole in bottom of rear muffler ... less than 1/2 inch diameter

i'm not having any overt muffler problems so muffler not issue

should i seal it. can it be sealed.

You can patch it but believe me that you are only delaying the replacement.

i would prefer to wait a year before forking out more repair money so DELAY would be good and better.

when i need to replace muffler, what is recommendation for 1999 Saturn SL1

i'd just have back part replaced with hole in it and leave pipe and front intact. does that make sense

The only part that rots away is the muffler. I would start looking for a stainless steel muffler that you like.

talking with someone, they said all one needs to do is

just cut off muffer
put a sleeve around cut pipe and muffler then clamp it
optionally one can weld it

seems better than a muffler shop

muffler ... oem or after market

>stainless steel muffler

aftermarket
ok

If the hole is near the muffler strap, there maybe more rust damage than you can see. I replaced my muffler a few weeks ago and was suprised to see the damage to the muffler under the strap.

A pic of my old muffler here:
