Default P0741 and P0781...Help!!!

2001 Saturn SL2 automatic with 137k miles. I have those two codes. The car sometimes has a delay going into reverse and it bumps going from 2nd to 3rd...bumps again going down from 3rd back to 2nd. What is wrong? Is it a bad solenoid? If so, which one?

REWARD EXCELLENCE!

The 741 may be caused by the 781. The781 is possibly a slipping 2nd gear clutch or faulty electrical connection to the 2nd gear solenoid. The connector and plug on top of the transmission tends to get oil fouled. Check resistance between pins J and H on the top of the transmission, nominal is 4.5 ohm. http://www.saturnfans.com/photos/sho...hp?photo=52369

And as you also have reverse slam I would suspect loose nuts. You need both new nuts and the end cover gasket. No, you can not just tighten them and reuse the gasket.

These threads detail what is involved in the repair.

I checked my TRS2/TCC fuse and it was blown. I replaced it and drive the car for about 15 minutes and it was fine...until the fuse blew again. What could be the cause of the fuse burning up?

I sloved the problem...I took the valve body out and checked each solenoid one at a time and it turned out that the TCC solenoid was toast. I replaced it with a new one and the car shifts perfect in all gears, no more delay in reverse, and no more burnt out TRS/TCC fuse.

Sounds good. I should have mentioned the fuses but forgot them as that is so obvious. At least you found the bad solenoid. If you still have a reverse delay you should consider a rebuilt valve body from Special Forces (member here, just PM him) as that alone will loosen the nuts and eventually trash the transmission.
