2007 VUE 3.5L
Default Wind Noise Fixed

I was getting wind noise and a buzzing sound on my 2007 Vue at highway speeds on both drivers and passenger doors. Very annoying, especially since it was right at ear level. Somewhere buried in another thread I remembered someone mentioning the Bernoulli effect, so I looked to the pieces of exterior trim on the rear of the window opening at the "B" pillar. As I tapped on them I could hear they were loose. Removing a screw at the top and bottom from the inside of the door / window frame and sliding the trim piece out towards the back of the door, found two molded-in hooks on the back of the trim that clip into the door sheet metal. Took a small piece of adhesive backed felt tape (BSR tape) and put it under each hook so they would be isolated from the sheet metal on both hook surface and part surface. Slid them back in place, reinstalled the screws. Make sure to keep track of which is which when you put them back in. The top one is a machine screw that goes into a threaded insert, the bottom one screws into a plastic boss on the chrome trim below the window...don't over tighten the bottom one. On the passenger side I found one of the hooks was broken, but fortunately was still stuck in the door...I'm guessing bad installation. I was able to super glue it back on, then put felt on those. When reinstalled, there was no movement when I tapped on them. The best part...no more wind noise or buzzing!

Thanks VT...learned a lot already from reading other posts, and will make sure to share anything else I find works. Much better to be able to fix things ourselves than pay $$$ for someone else to!

I gave it a shot with silicone caulk. Removed the trim and put a generous amount of caulk under each hook. Happy to report...NO MORE WIND NOISE!!

fixed mine a few years ago using adhesive-backed foam weather-stripping tape... worked like a charm.

I'm having a hard time picturing this. I took the panel off and I see the little plastic hooks. Am I supposed to put the felt or whatever I find under the "hook" part of the hook? or on the plastic part around the hook?

Am I trying to keep the big plastic panel from vibrating against the metal of the door?

Thanks for your help, maybe now I can finally convince my wife that the window IS sealed good...

Put the material under the 'hook' part. If you imagine it as a "C" you want to cover the inside of the "C" to isolate it from metal contact and tighten the hook to the door sheetmetal. The hook then does what it is supposed to do...keep the panel tight to the door and not allow the wind to suck it out and get underneath it.

jk3028 ... thats a darn good idea - your next mission is to figure out how to fix torque converters, noisy struts and prop-shaft bearings.
...

I put a glob of silicone under each hook and around each slot for the hooks. I did this to a 2003 Vue where all the hooks were broken by putting caulk in the same spots and it worked.

That is exactly what I did, a little household weather stripping in that same area made a big improvement with the wind noise.

... the foam weatherstripping tape expands, and keeps the panels from rattling in the wind.

Hmm, weird, I just did this about 3 weeks ago, both my clips on the passanger side were broken. But rather then put adhesive or weather stripping on them, I just cleaned them both, glued the clips back on and re-installed them with nice tight screws. viola, no noise.
