2006 VUE 2.2L
Default Hub caps

I have a 2006 Saturn Vue with the 4cyl and automatic transmission. I have hub caps on the wheels. I looked in the manual and it does not discuss the hub caps except to say you have to take them off before removing the wheel.
My concern is this. I can move them with my hand, sliding them back and forth. They look as though they are bolted on with the lug nuts, but if I can move them then are my lug nuts loose? I am used to having hub caps that grip the rim from the edge. I have seen on here people talking about them getting put on too tight when rotating the tires. I guess what I am asking is how do they work?

raday ... I don't have a 2006 and am not sure I understand what sort of wheel cover you have.

I checked the 2006 owners manual which mentions a wheel cover held in place by captive fasteners which are attached to wheel lug-nuts.

If the plastic lug-nut covers are loose enough to move the wheel cover - it might be a good idea to remove the cover to check torque of the actual wheel lug-nuts.

BTW - the plastic lug-nut covers are captive to the wheel cover so don't try to remove them from the wheel cover.

...

So if I understand you the hub caps have covers built into the wheel cover that clip over the lug nuts?

Do I then pop the wheel cover off just like the old style wheel covers with a screw driver or lug wrench?

It kind of looks like the plastic caps on the lug nuts are separate from the wheel cover.

Sorry it is kind of confusing, but I just do not want to break them.

Thanks

The lug-nut covers (on my 2005 Vue) screw on ... they are same size as lug-nut.

My lug-nut covers are loosely attached to the wheel cover so once all five are loosened the wheel cover should be removable. You may have to use a screwdriver or other flat tipped tool to "gently" lift the cover for removal.

For installation - manual indicates fasten each plastic lug-nut cover to a lug-nut by hand and then use lug wrench to turn slightly to fasten (1/2 turn).
