Default 2000 saturn starting hard

i have a 2000 saturn s 1.9l duel cam
when i havent started it in a month or so it starts perfect but once i shut it off it will only turn over. If i hold the gas petal to the floor it will start but i have to work the gas to keep it running. After 5min or so of doing that it will idle. It has around 150000 miles on it. I have changed the plugs, wires, air filter, n fuel filter and no change. Any help will be great.

REWARD EXCELLENCE!

Replace the original faulty plastic coolant sensor if it was never replaced. They fail and either richen the cold start fuel mixtures too much or flooded the engine. Brass is the cure, from any auto store. Pictures in the How-to library.

Sounds like you already replaced the fuel filter, did you use the factory or I believe the Napa/Wix one? Check the posts here for more info. You should be able to check the fuel pressure from the shrader (sp?) port on the fuel rail. The ECTS is also another likely candidate.

On my '98 the fuel filter fixed a long crank issue (20-30 seconds in some cases). From what I understand the pressure regulator is in the filter.

Good luck,
Chuck

If you're speaking about shutting it off without driving and warming it (especially in cold weather) than you're flooding it. Never start a car and shut it off. In summer not too bad. In winter it is very harmful. Just went through this with my daughter. Her roommate started and shut my car off, than she did, than when she tried to go somewhere later on it balked. Not knowing what to do she started pumping the gas pedal which of course made it worse. I had to drive nearly 60 miles to get where she stays the next day. Pulled the plugs she had so much gas in the cyls it sprayed out. Bottom line if you start it run it. If you're not going to run it don't start it.
