I just bought an L200 with the 2.2l engine too!! (well I bought it on 12-22-10).

I changed the oil the minute I got it into my driveway. It takes ~5 quarts.

The 2.2l is very easy on oil. I used Wal-Marts house brand synthetic. Im going to run it 3000 miles, dump it, and refill with Pennzoil Platinum synthetic or Valvoline Synpower. 5w/30 is the grade you need to use.

As for the filter, they run about $6-$8. Kmart has all Purolator oil filters (great brand) on sale right now for $5.75. Be sure to always use a good name brand. The cheaper ones (champ, etc) have been rumored to collapse sometimes.

The oil filter housing (since the oil filter is a paper cartridge) is atop the engine, towards the drivers side in the front of the engine. A 1 1/4" socket is needed, or you can do what I did and used a big crescent wrench. Make sure you have the new style oil filter cap, which has a revised bypass built in. You can do some google research for the part # and/or go to bobistheoilguy forums (google that too).

If you havent already had an L- Series with the Ecotec, you are going to love it!! Im averaging 25mpg in the city and my last highway run yielded 34mpg. Ive had the car 3 weeks and put 1200 miles on it already The car also has pretty good power for its size. Garaged my 2002 Envoy (13mpg) and havent looked back since.

Open hood - is there an engine? Ok done.

Just kidding. Your light is on because an error was logged by your cars ECM (read: brain). Autozone scans for free. Unless, of course, its the service wrench light of which Autozone cannot scan. They can only read check engine codes.

This gets confusing because there are 3 dash lighs pertaining to your car that people get mixed up. There is an actual light that says "Check" with a picture of an engine. Then there is a light that says "Service" with a picture of a wrench. Finally, there is a light that says "Change oil soon". Exactly which one are you asking about?

Like Partymmudasti says... we'll want more information.

Depending on how long you've had this L and it's known History this could be something simple OR complex... Innocent or Nefarious that is either something you've done or possibly the previous owner did or didn't do. It all depends.
